- Quantum drives manufactured between 1990 and (I believe) 1992 suffer from
- a form of sticktion (yes, its spelled wrong :-( ) similar to that plagueing
- early Seagate drives. Perhaps thats your problem. My Quantum P40S is
- *NEVER* turned off and if I get a power glitch it can take me up to 15
- minutes to get it to spin back up. If your drive is like mine, the "tick
- tick" sound you hear is the drive's ROM trying to "bump" the head free (mine
- only tries once though). Turning the drive on and off will work in the
- early stages, eventually (if thats your problem) you will have to leave
- the drive on 24hrs a day (or replace it - I won't replace mine until it
- dies completly, but I'm cheap).

- You might need to open the 3000's case and listen closely to hear if its
- actually spinning up when you turn on the power, this will tell you if
- this is your actual problem or not.
