  25. Quantum drives manufactured between 1990 and (I believe) 1992 suffer from 
  26. a form of sticktion (yes, its spelled wrong :-( ) similar to that plagueing 
  27. early Seagate drives.  Perhaps thats your problem.  My Quantum P40S is 
  28. *NEVER* turned off and if I get a power glitch it can take me up to 15 
  29. minutes to get it to spin back up.  If your drive is like mine, the "tick 
  30. tick" sound you hear is the drive's ROM trying to "bump" the head free (mine 
  31. only tries once though).  Turning the drive on and off will work in the 
  32. early stages, eventually (if thats your problem) you will have to leave 
  33. the drive on 24hrs a day (or replace it - I won't replace mine until it 
  34. dies completly, but I'm cheap).

  36. You might need to open the 3000's case and listen closely to hear if its 
  37. actually spinning up when you turn on the power, this will tell you if 
  38. this is your actual problem or not.
